Pre-Test Instructions
Before undergoing the test, please adhere to the following instructions:
- Avoid Biotin for at least 8 hours prior to specimen collection.
- Overnight fasting is preferred.
- A duly filled Coagulation Requisition Form (Form 15) is mandatory.
Sample Type
The test requires:
- 3 mL (2 mL min.) serum from 1 SST, shipped refrigerated or frozen.
- 2 mL (1 mL min.) plasma from 1 Lavender Top (EDTA) tube, separated within 2 hours of collection, shipped refrigerated or frozen.
- 3 mL whole blood in 1 Blue Top (Sodium Citrate) tube, mixed thoroughly by inversion and transported to the lab within 4 hours.
If transport is delayed, prepare platelet-poor plasma (PPP) within 1 hour of collection by centrifuging the sample at 3600 rpm for 15 minutes and transferring the supernatant to a clean plastic tube. Centrifuge this supernatant again at 3600 rpm for 15 minutes and transfer the final supernatant to a labeled clean plastic screw-capped vial. Freeze immediately and do not thaw.
