Adamts13 Activity Test
Introduction to the Adamts13 Activity Test
The Adamts13 Activity Test is a crucial diagnostic tool used to evaluate the activity of the ADAMTS13 enzyme, which plays a vital role in blood coagulation. This test is particularly important for patients suspected of having thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP), a serious condition characterized by the formation of small blood clots throughout the body’s blood vessels. By measuring the activity of this enzyme, healthcare providers can better understand the underlying causes of coagulation disorders and tailor appropriate treatment plans.
What the Test Measures
This test specifically measures the activity level of the ADAMTS13 enzyme in the blood. A deficiency or dysfunction of this enzyme can lead to excessive clotting, which may result in serious complications.
Who Should Consider This Test?
Individuals who exhibit symptoms of thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) or have risk factors for coagulation disorders should consider this test. Symptoms may include:
- Unexplained bruising
- Fatigue
- Jaundice
- Neurological symptoms (e.g., headaches, confusion)
Benefits of Taking the Test
- Accurate diagnosis of coagulation disorders.
- Guidance for appropriate treatment strategies.
- Monitoring of enzyme activity over time.
- Improved understanding of individual health risks.
Understanding Your Results
Results from the Adamts13 Activity Test can help healthcare providers determine the severity of enzyme deficiency and the potential need for further testing or treatment. It is essential to discuss your results with your healthcare provider to understand their implications fully.

Adamts13 Activity Test | 520,000 NGN | 700,000 NGN |
Pre-Test Instructions
For optimal results, overnight fasting is preferred. A duly filled Coagulation Requisition Form (Form 15) is mandatory for the test.
Sample Type and Transport
The test requires a sample of 3 mL whole blood collected in a Blue Top (Sodium Citrate) tube. It is crucial to mix the sample thoroughly by inversion and transport it to the laboratory within 4 hours. If this is not possible, plasma should be prepared within 1 hour of collection as follows:
- Centrifuge the sample at 3600 rpm for 15 minutes.
- Transfer the supernatant to a clean plastic tube.
- Centrifuge this supernatant again at 3600 rpm for 15 minutes.
- Finally, transfer the supernatant (PPP) to 1 labelled, clean plastic screw-capped vial and freeze immediately. Ship frozen and do not thaw.
