Lysozyme Muramidase Test
Introduction to the Lysozyme Muramidase Test
The Lysozyme Muramidase Test is an important diagnostic procedure that measures the levels of lysozyme in the blood. Lysozyme is an enzyme that plays a crucial role in the body’s immune response, particularly in fighting infections and inflammation. This test is particularly significant in oncology, as elevated levels of lysozyme can be indicative of certain types of cancer. Understanding lysozyme levels can aid healthcare professionals in diagnosing and monitoring cancer progression.
What the Test Measures
This test specifically detects the concentration of lysozyme in serum, which can provide valuable information regarding the body’s immune response and potential underlying health issues. Elevated lysozyme levels may suggest the presence of malignancies, particularly in patients with cancer.
Who Should Consider This Test
The Lysozyme Muramidase Test is recommended for patients who exhibit symptoms or risk factors associated with cancer. Symptoms may include unexplained weight loss, persistent fatigue, or recurrent infections. Oncologists may suggest this test as part of a comprehensive evaluation for patients suspected of having cancer.
Benefits of Taking the Test
- Provides critical information for cancer diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Aids in monitoring disease progression and response to treatment.
- Helps identify potential complications related to immune response.
Understanding Your Results
Results from the Lysozyme Muramidase Test will indicate the concentration of lysozyme in your serum. Elevated levels may require further investigation and should be discussed with your healthcare provider to understand the implications for your health. It is essential to interpret these results in the context of other clinical findings.

Test Details
Sample Type: 2 mL (1 mL min.) serum from 1 SST. Separate serum within 1 hour of collection in a plastic transport vial. Ship refrigerated or frozen. Delayed separation of the serum can result in spuriously high levels of lysozyme, presumably because of the breakdown of leukocytes.
Turnaround Time: Sample by 7th of the month; Report after 2-3 weeks.
Pre-Test Instructions: Duly filled Test Send Out Consent Form (Form 35) is mandatory.
